Overlooking the Chesapeake Bay on Maryland's Eastern Shore, Great Oak is a real find for anyone searching for that special get-a-way-from-it-all B&B retreat. It is a palatial 1700's style Georgian Mansion hideaway set on 12 acres with its own private swimming beach and gazebo and "next door" access to golf, tennis and swimming pool (you can walk or cycle over on one of the Manor's ten speed mountain bikes available to guests). The Manor is just 8 miles from historic Chestertown, MD (a stopping off point for George Washington on his way to Philadelphia)and only a one and one-half hour drive from Washington, DC, Baltimore or Philadelphia. The 11 guest rooms, most with water views, have private baths and the inn is air-conditioned for summer comfort.

Features in Country Inns, The Washingtonian, Southern Living and Philadelphia magazines and most recently in TIME and Modern Maturity Magazines, Great Oak is gaining prominence not only for the romantic B&B'er but also for special events such as weddings, reunions, and business planning sessions. In January of 2000 the inn was chosen as one on the country's top ten "Most Romantic Inns" by American Historic Inns, Inc.

The majesty of the house includes scenic carvings over the doorways in the main hall, and over the nine fireplaces, intricate dental moldings, and a sweeping circular stairway. Acclaimed in Country Inns magazine as "the regal 25-room mansion resting on the gentle banks of the Chesapeake Bay...," Great Oak is reminiscent of the Great Gadsby era providing a stylish retreat for the high flyers of the 1930s and 40s.
