Cape Charles House645 Tazewell AvenueCape Charles, Virginia 23310 United States 757-331-4920 FAX: 757-331-4960 stay@capecharleshouse.com http://www.capecharleshouse.com Rate this Inn Cape Charles House is located in Cape Charles, Virginia, a town established in the early 1880s as the terminus of the railroad that serviced the lower Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay. The large concentration of late Victorian and Turn-of-the-Century buildings has placed the town on the National Register of Historic Places. The Great Depression of the 1930s slowed its growth to a point that Cape Charles remains today an accurate example of a small town of that era. This Bed & Breakfast, a Colonial Revival frame house, was built in 1912. It's high ceilings, original moldings and doors, and the antiques and oriental rugs and furnishings maintain the integrity, warmth and beauty of it's architectural style. Each guest room has the modern convenience of individual climate control, private baths and sitting areas. Full course gourmet breakfast and afternoon wine and cheese, or tea and sweets are included in the tariff. Luncheons and gourmet dinners are accommodated by special request. Our special-event weekends include: Theater Packages, Murder Mystery Packages, Cooking School Weekends. Cape Charles House is open year round for your enjoyment. A local beach and salt marsh provide for bathing, fishing, clamming and crabbing. Hundreds of species of birds in their natural migratory paths traverse our National Wildlife Refuge each year. Charter boats, guided fishing, hunting or shooting and excursions to remote seaside barrier islands that have been designated as a Biosphere Reserve by the United Nations. History permeates the nearby villages and towns, several of which offer art galleries, antiques and country auction sales. Daily cruises to Tangier Island offers a glimpse of a largely unspoiled Chesapeake Bay fishing village, known as the soft-shell crab capital of the world. The people of Tangier speak with a lingering Elizabethan English accent dating to the mid 1600s and have a lifestyle that has been passed down through generations of Chesapeake Bay watermen.
